Root canal therapy is intended to save a tooth which is badly decayed or becomes infected. Root canal is the space within the root of the tooth that consists of the pulp tissue. Infection in the pulp tissue results in severe pain and further leads to bone loss in the area near the root. If any infection, tooth decay or cracking is present within or below the tooth, to cure the infection and save the tooth, the dentist removes the infected pulp from the pulp chamber along with other debris present within the root canal and then fills the pulp space with a material thereby sealing it. This procedure is known as root canal therapy.
